CHOOSE THE BEST SHADE OF LIPSTICK FOR YOUR SKIN TONE
There’s nothing worse than buying a new shade of lipstick only to find that it just doesn’t work with your skin tone. Maybe it washes you out. Maybe it makes your skin look pale. Being able to try on a shade of lipstick before you buy it can be nice, but it isn’t always possible to do that. Here are a few tips from Amber Dazzle on how to match your lipstick to your skin tone when you can’t try before you buy.
Do You Have Fair Skin?
If you have fair skin like Margot Robbie and you like to go bold, you’re in luck. Bold reds and deep colors can pair very well with fair skin – as long as you don’t do burgundy (it can make you look washed out). Nudes and corals can also work, provided that you don’t go too light or with too much of a yellow undertone. For pale skin with pink undertones, stay with your natural palette. Think pinks, corals, and orangey-reds. Avoid any blue-based reds as they’ll clash with your skin tone and end up looking out of balance.
Do You Have an Olive Complexion?
For the olive-skinned, just about anything goes, with the exception of browns and purplish-red. If your undertones are yellow and you want to wear red lipstick, go with a blue-based red and avoid the orangey shades. If not, go with bronze shades or nudes
What About Dark Skin?
For darker skin tones, you’ll want to avoid anything that’s too pale or light on your lips unless you’re going for a statement (because you’ll definitely be making one, though it may not be the one you want). Deep plums, berries, and reds can do wonders, though.
